The Piana family began its textile manufacturing business in 1582 and is known as the oldest Italian family in textiles.
Over the centuries, the business has continually evolved and perfected its products to meet the demands of a changing world, culminating in the development of V/Smart™ technology.
Born out of an ongoing commitment to sustainability, a rich history of craftsmanship and knowledge, and a desire to seamlessly integrate with cutting-edge advancements, this technology is ground-breaking.
Not only does our V/Smart™ technology create a whole new benchmark in sleep health and personalisation, but it is also revolutionizing the mattress industry with the integration of circular economy principles in the mattress lifecycle to eliminate landfill waste.
OUR STORY
Since the first textile factory in Biella, Italy opened in 1582, we have been working with traditional textiles ever since making us the oldest Italian textile family. In the 1950s the family business evolved to dyeing fiber to expand it to the American textile market.
In 1995 the Piana Family opened their first dye house, Tintoria Piana, in Cartersville, Georgia.
In 2014 Piana Nonwovens was created in Cartersville, Georgia producing cross-lap and vertical-lap nonwovens for multiple industries such as bedding, furniture, insulation, filtration, and automotive. A second nonwoven factory was then opened in Yuma, Arizona to service the West Coast.
In 2024 Piana Sleep presented its first mattress line, the Rinnovo, to the public.
In the USA alone, more than 50,000 mattresses are sent to landfill each day, with each one taking hundreds of years to decompose, releasing harmful gases and leachates into our air, soil and water.
